My “Cracked at Birth” Column

In 2000, I left corporate America to pursue the toughest job in the world…life as a stay-at-home mother. Although I was thrilled to be home with my two sons, I quickly realized that if I was going to survive this new life I needed a “coping mechanism.” So…instead of grabbing for the bottle, I grabbed for my pen and started writing…

Where Have All the Idols Gone?

April 13, 2010

If you or your kids are looking for an idol these days, good luck. Every time you turn on the TV or read the newspaper, it seems we’re bombarded with bad news about another star or public figure gone wrong. Here’s what I mean.

“Hey, honey. Anything good on this week? How a about a good comedy?” I ask my husband.

“Well, there’s Two and a Half Men.”

“Ugh. I can’t watch Charlie Sheen. His rap sheet is longer than the number of diets I’ve tried and failed.” Continue reading…

Do You Dare to Dream?

February 12, 2010

Let me start by saying that I have a great life. I really do. I have a nice home, a wonderful family and I’m healthy. However, with that said, I also have a lot of dreams about things I’d like to change or add to my life. Admittedly, I probably dream a little too much, but asking a dreamer not to dream is like telling a pianist he can no longer play the piano. It’s in our blood. It’s who we are. It’s what we do. Perils of Puppyhood

October 20, 2008

shadow

After years of begging, pleading, whining, and torture…we finally got a puppy. With a house full of boys, you can probably guess who the holdout was. And, if my cats had a voice, I’m pretty sure they would have been on my side of the fence as well. Continue reading…

Planning Is Everything…Or Is It?

May 19, 2008

Did you ever look forward to something so much you could hardly wait? But in order to get there you had to have a “plan?” Continue reading…

Bringing Back the Joy

January 5, 2008

In Justin Timberlake’s hit Sexy Back, he sings about, well, bringing sexy back. I’m not really sure where he thinks it went considering what you see in the tabloids, on TV, at the movies, or even in the mall, but oddly enough I was thinking about this song while trying to come up with my New Year’s resolutions. Continue reading…

My Husband Has Friends. Who Does He Think He Is?

November 5, 2007

My husband and I have been married for 15 years and in all that time, he’s probably gone out with his friends about 10 times. Now, all of a sudden, he’s out having “play dates” with his buddies virtually every weekend. His average has just spiked up about 4,000%. What’s up with that? Continue reading…

Who’s Got Time for a Mid-life Crisis? Not Us!

February 27, 2007

k&m

I think I’m having a mid-life crisis. The good news is…if I’m truly at the middle of my life, I’m going to live to be 84. The bad news is…my husband is having a mid-life crisis too. Continue reading…

Adding my Personal Touch

September 26, 2006

Ah, a new school year. A time for new beginnings, new friends, and of course a trip to the office supply store for back-to-school supplies. Continue reading…

I’m Such a Wetnork

April 13, 2006

No, that’s not a typo in the title. Wetnork is a name used to refer to someone, namely me, who is put in a networking situation and fails miserably. My roommate from college coined the phrase by accident when she was preparing for a public speaking class. Continue reading…

Singin’ the Tax Season Blues

March 10, 2006

It’s that time again. Time to set up the folding card table in the living room, sharpen the pencils, gather the 1099s, consume a few pots of coffee, and dive into the process we all know and don’t love. Filing your taxes! Continue reading…
